Age gap romance books are a go-to trope in the world of reading romance. There’s just something so addictive about reading such forbidden love stories and watching the couples navigate their taboo relationship.
Despite the sometimes big age gap, the characters are not willing to let each other go and will do whatever it takes to follow their hearts. On the flip side, some of the characters feel terrible about their age difference and fight desperately to ignore their mutual attraction…and fail to do so.
Age Gap Tropes in Romance Novels
Within the age gap trope, there are a few well-loved themes:
- Mafia Romance
- Older Woman/Younger Man
Whatever the theme may be, the age difference remains, and you’ll find yourself becoming obsessed with the couples in question. You may also want to start pulling your hair out watching the characters attempting to ignore the bubbling passion igniting between them.
The Best Age Gap Romance Books
Because this is in my top 5 favorite tropes, I’d love to recommend some must-read age-gap romance books. Whatever sub-trope you enjoy, there are themes of teacher/student romances, sporty romances, boyfriend’s dad/heroine, etc.
The first age gap story I read is Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. Even to this day, this remains my favorite age gap romance, and I’d highly recommend it if you’ve never read a book with this trope. But I’ll warn you, you’ll likely find yourself down the rabbit hole and become obsessed with this trope after finishing it.
If you have any more recommendations, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org I’m constantly updating this reading list as I find and read more books with this trope, and I am always open to discovering more!

Those weren’t exactly my best moments, but they were his.More info →

Where do I begin? Oh. Yeah. Once upon a time. Isn't that how all good fairy tales start? And Maximo and I, we were definitely a fairy tale.
