After the death of her mother, Corvina Clemm receives an invitation to attend the peculiar University of Verenmore. Anxious to move on with her life, Corvina accepts. There, she meets Vad Deverell, a part-time professor whose aware of the dangers that lurk around the campus. In an unlikely pairing, Corvina and Vad begrudgingly become a part of each other's lives and become infatuated.
